  • What is halotherapy?

Dry salt therapy (halotherapy) is a natural, drug-free, non-invasive treatment that utilizes a halogenerator to grind, crush, and disperse micron-sized particles into the salt room to help aid respiratory concerns and skin conditions. If there is no halogenerator, there is no halotherapy.

    How does halotherapy work?

Dry salt therapy acts to cleanse the respiratory system and the skin, which helps to relieve congestion, inflammation, and skin conditions. Sessions are non-invasive.

Dry salt is super absorbent. It acts like a sponge attracting foreign substances along its path through the respiratory tract. The dry salt can be imagined behaving like a toothbrush that cleans the respiratory system removing the build-up of foreign elements that cause various respiratory ailments and conditions.

Dry salt is anti-inflammatory. Inhaled dry salt particles may help to reduce inflammation in the entire respiratory tract and widen the airway passages. A clean respiratory system naturally results in higher oxygen intake, increased energy, and an improved immune system.

Finally, dry salt is antibacterial. The dry salt particles act as an anti-bacterial agent, dissolving bacteria and pollutants lodged in the respiratory tract. These are then either coughed up or naturally expelled by the body.

Who benefits from dry salt therapy?

Halotherapy benefits adults and children alike, as well as athletes and animals. It is natural and safe and there are no side effects. According to the Salt Therapy Association (STA), many people who undergo halotherapy as a complementary treatment on a regular basis may find relief from a variety of respiratory conditions such as:

    -Asthma

    -Chronic Bronchitis

    -Coughs, Colds & Flu

    -Emphysema

    -Sinus Infections/Sinusitis

    -COPD

    -Cystic Fibrosis

    -Allergies/Hay Fever

    -Ear Infections

    -Snoring & Sleeping Problem

Dry salt therapy is also extremely beneficial to your skin in treating:

    -Acne

    -Psoriasis

    -Eczema

In addition, dry salt therapy has been shown to reduce:

    -Stress

    -Anxiety

    -Fatigue

What happens in a salt room?

Once you enter the salt room, you can sit and relax. The lights will dim, and you can choose to listen to relaxing music, read a book or magazine, meditate, or simply rest.

The temperature and humidity in the rooms are controlled to provide an optimal experience. You will find pure relaxation and tranquility away from your everyday stress, leaving you rejuvenated and fully energized. (Cell phones, electronics, and jewelry are usually not permitted since salt can be corrosive.)

The salt, 99.99% pure grade sodium chloride, is heated and then ground and crushed into very tiny microparticles. These dry aerosol microparticles of salt are then dispersed into the salt room where they are inhaled and penetrate deep into the lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli. The non-inhaled salt particles fall onto the skin and are absorbed.

When your session is over, you may notice a faint trace of salt on your lips, and the slight taste of salt on your tongue. Any salt that collects on your clothing can be easily brushed off. A runny nose or increase in coughing means your body clearing out mucus and toxins.

How long is salt room session?

Our salt sessions typically last 45 minutes. This gives you ample time to relax and receive the full benefit of the dry salt.

What do I wear in the salt room?

Loose, comfortable, light-colored clothing that you can relax in works best. If you are using dry salt therapy for a skin condition, you’ll want to have that area exposed.

How many sessions do I need, and how often?

Based on your condition and symptoms, this can vary. For best results, the Salt Therapy Association recommends a series of treatments. Some individuals prefer to use dry salt therapy as a continuous preventative measure.

Are these any side effects of dry salt therapy?

There are no potentially harmful side effects of dry salt therapy. The treatment is completely natural. A slight cough or a runny nose is possible, but this is simply the salt working to remove mucus and toxins from the lungs and airways.

    Disclaimer:

While there have been many clinical and scientific studies conducted on dry salt therapy (halotherapy) throughout the world over the past 20 years, the FDA does not presently recognize dry salt therapy as a medical treatment in the United States.

  • What is infrared?

Nature delivers infrared in sunlight. The sun emits a wide range of light, most of which we can’t actually see.

Remember the first time you saw a prism transform light into a rainbow of visible light? Infrared is the invisible light just outside the prism next to red light, thus the name “infra (below)" + “red.” Sunlight is 52-55% infrared. It’s all the good parts of the sun’s healing light.

Infrared’s healing rays are felt on our skin as warmth and are absorbed by our bodies to help them detoxify, relax, improve circulation, recover faster, sleep better, age well and help us feel good.

These infrared waves are recreated in our sauna:

Near Infrared (NIR) for anti-aging, skin health and muscle recovery is the shortest wavelength and penetrates skin’s outermost epidermis layer. It delivers the most energy and is the same low level light therapy (LLLT) used in cosmetic and healing devices.

Mid Infrared (MIR) for heart health, circulation, pain relief and muscle recovery penetrates the body’s soft tissue where inflammation occurs.

Far Infrared (FIR) for detoxification, heart health, eight loss, immunity, general wellness, relaxation and muscle recovery is the longest wavelength and penetrates deepest into body. It stimulates sweat glands in order to produce a deep detoxifying sweat.

Can I use the sauna every day?

For most people, daily sauna use is okay after your body has become accustomed to infrared therapy. Drink increased amounts of water to stay hydrated. Listen to your body and stop your session if you feel any discomfort.

    How long is each session?

Our sessions are 30 minutes, but if you are new to infrared, 10-15 minute sessions are recommended so your body can adjust to the heat.

So, how hot does it get in there?

During a 30-minute session, the air temperature will reach between 120-140ºF.

How do I prepare for a session?

Drink a minimum of 8 oz. of water to prepare your body for an increase in core body temperature.

We lay down towels on the bench to absorb sweat. It’s also nice to use the extra towel we provide to wipe your face during sessions.

    What happens during a session?

After you arrive, you’ll go to our private room with the sauna. You can get undressed, put on a towel and step into the sauna.

Press the on button to begin. Click the sunlighten app on screen and choose a program or time setting. You can also change the light settings, hook up to bluetooth, watch shows, etc on while in the sauna.

What do I do after sauna use?

Rehydrate with at least 24 oz. of water or electrolyte drink. Have a seat, dry off and cool down naturally.

    Why am I not sweating?

Just as with exercise or eating healthy, sauna use takes time and consistency to see results. You may not sweat the first few times you use the sauna but sweating (and the detox that comes with it) will increase over time, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and healthy.

After using regularly and still not sweating to your body’s potential, there could be other factors at play. Are you drinking enough water? Are you only hydrating on days you know you will sit in the sauna? It is recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces.

Can I take my cell phone into the sauna?

Just as you would not leave your cell phone in your car on a hot day, we do not recommend taking cells phones, Apple watches or other electronics in the sauna. The electronics that are built into the sauna are designed for a heated environment, so you can watch a show or listen to music as an alternative.

Can I lean against the heater panels?

Yes, it is safe to lean against the heater panels. If you find it is uncomfortable, the backrest is there to provide support.

I have a medical condition, a medical question, or am taking a specific medication:

If any of the below apply to you, consult your GP or specialist prior to sauna use:

Cardiovascular Issues, Obesity or Diabetes – Individuals suffering from obesity or with a medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory problems, or diabetes should consult a physician prior to use. Heat stress increases cardiac output and blood flow in an effort to transfer internal body heat to the outside environment via the skin (perspiration) and respiratory system. This takes place primarily due to major changes in the heart rate, which has the potential to increase by thirty (30) beats per minute for each degree increase in core body temperature.

Medications – Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their personal physician since some medications may induce drowsiness, while others may affect heart rate, blood pressure and circulation. Diuretics, barbiturates, and beta-blockers may impair the body’s natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics, such as amitriptyline, may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the-counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke.

Alcohol & Drug Abuse – Contrary to popular belief, it is not advisable to attempt to “sweat out” a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person’s judgment; therefore, he/she may not realize when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress. The use of alcohol, drugs, or medications prior to a sauna session may lead to unconsciousness.

Elderly – The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature. If elderly, operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.

Children – The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. This occurs due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increased cardiac demands, and the inability to regulate body temperature by sweating. When using with a child, operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time.

Chronic Conditions / Diseases Associated with Reduced Ability to Sweat or Perspire – Multiple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors, and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating. Consult a physician.

Hemophiliacs / Individuals Prone to Bleeding – The use of infrared saunas should be avoided by anyone who is predisposed to bleeding.

Fever & Insensitivity to Heat – Individuals with insensitivity to heat or who have a fever should not use the sauna until the fever subsides.

Pregnancy – Pregnant women should consult a physician before using an infrared sauna.

Menstruation – Heating of the low back area of women during the menstrual period may temporarily increase menstrual flow. This should not preclude sauna use.

Joint Injury – Recent (acute) joint injury should not be heated for the first 48 hours or until the swollen symptoms subside. Joints that are chronically hot and swollen may respond poorly to vigorous heating of any kind.

Implants – Metal pins, rods, artificial joints, or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using.

Surgeries (For Solo Only) – If you've had any abdominal surgery, c-section, tummy tuck, or breast augmentation, consult your physician before using the Solo.

Pacemakers / Defibrillators – The magnets used to assemble our saunas can interrupt the pacing and inhibit the output of pacemakers. Please discuss with your doctor the possible risks this may cause.

In the rare event that you experience pain or discomfort, immediately discontinue sauna use.
